بعد التحديث والتطوير المذهل لشركة هواوي في سلسلة الـ P20 وعلى الأخص مواصفات هاتف هواوي Mate 20 Pro الذي يعد أفضل أحد الكاميرات الموجودة في هاتف ذكي خلال عام 2018، قامت بعد فترة هواوي بالإعلان عن هاتفها الجديد في سلسلة الـ Mate ليكون الـ Huawei Mate 20 Pro الهاتف الجديد في أواخر عام 2018 وليكون من أوائل 2019 كما هو الحال في الإصدار السابق، حيث أصبح هاتف Mate 20 Pro يأتي بثلاث كاميرات مثل الـ P20 Pro.
لكن هواوي إستغنت عن تصوير الكاميرا الأبيض والأسود وأصبحت تدعم التصوير الـ ultrawide بدلاً من الـ wide مع أحدث معالج الجديد من هواوي الـKirin 980، ليكون أول هاتف يعمل بنظام Android يستخدم معالج بتصنيع 7nm لتكون أكثر كفاءة من حيث الطاقة والأداء مثل معالج كوالكم الـ Snapdragon 845 الذي تم صنعه بـ 10nm.
